Plantain cooking recipe
Here's a tasty recipe for fried plantains that’s easy to make and delicious! Fried plantains have a caramelized outer layer and a soft, sweet interior, making them perfect as a snack, side, or dessert
Ingredients:
2 ripe plantains (yellow with black spots; they should be slightly soft to the touch)
2-3 tablespoons of oil (vegetable or coconut oil work well)
Salt or cinnamon sugar (optional, for seasoning)
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Plantains: Peel the plantains by cutting off both ends, making a shallow slit along the seam, and then peeling back the skin. Slice them at an angle into 1/2-inch thick pieces.
2. Heat the Oil: In a large skillet, heat the oil over medium heat. You’ll need enough oil to coat the bottom of the pan.
3. Fry the Plantains: Once the oil is hot, add the plantain slices in a single layer, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown and caramelized.
4. Drain and Season: Remove the plantains and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Sprinkle lightly with salt for a savory touch or cinnamon sugar if you prefer a sweet option.
5. Serve and Enjoy: Serve warm as a side, snack, or dessert. Fried plantains pair well with beans and rice or as a topping for yogurt.
Tips:
Use very ripe plantains for the sweetest, richest flavor.
Try adding a dash of lime juice or a drizzle of honey for extra flavor!
